Fedimint is a Bitcoin system where a group of trusted servers manages shared funds instead of a single company or custodian. It uses ecash for private and fast payments, supports Lightning, and can also work with onchain Bitcoin deposits and withdrawals.

ecash is digital cash issued by a mint. The idea goes back to David Chaum and his early eCash work, which was later implemented through DigiCash . In Fedimint, ecash enables fast Bitcoin payments with improved privacy inside a federation.
